Since taking over the legendary Jay Leno last year, late-night talk show host and funnyman Jimmy Fallon has been able to bring the laughs night in and night out on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Recently, rapper and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda, lead actor and the brains behind the hip-hop Broadway musical, Hamilton, guested on the show to talk about the production and his causes.
Of course, the appearance wouldn't be complete without Fallon engaging Miranda in one of his show's patented oddly satisfying games—this time a "Wheel of Freestyle" rap battle of sorts, against Tariq Trotter from The Tonight Show's house band, The Roots.
(Interestingly, The Roots produced the Hamilton cast's recording album and were also among the play's first advocates.)
And mind you, this is not your usual cuss-spewing Fliptop exchanges, with the two MCs supplied with three random words that they should use for their rap lines.
Check out their impressive freestyle fracas below:
Miranda no doubt killed it, but props to Tariq for being able to work around "Channing Tatum."
We just saw yet another proof that freestyle rap battles ALWAYS trump scripted ones.
