ABC-5, Sundays 8PM
The Philippines is no stranger to singing contests—from those during fiestas, Tanghalan ng Kampeon, to the never-ending competitions rival stations pit against each other on Saturdays. Enter Philippine Idol and you get an original spin on a typical singing star search! Okay, so it’s not that original, being a franchise of the Fremantle Media, 19 Entertainment, and CKX baby, American Idol. Ryan Cayabyab plays Ryan Seacrest of the Philippines, while Francis Magalona, Ryan Cayabyab, and Pilita Corrales are the judges. In all fairness, its pilot episode exceeded our expectations of the show.

- Auditions were held in Manila on June 3, Davao on June 23 and in Cebu on July 4.

- A screening that was to be held at SM City Sta. Mesa was called off, leading to complaints from hopefuls and of course, parents. After several hours of waiting, a representative of ABC-5 arrived and relocated each of the 160 frustrated applicants to other scheduled auditions.
