Meet August McLaughlin.

She's an L.A.-based health writer who recently became the guinea pig for a study conducted by doctors Nane Wise and Barry Komisaruk. The subject? The female orgasm.

Mclaughlin's mission: to masturbate in front of the scientists. She was put inside an MRI scanner so they can monitor "how various brain regions are activated during arousal and orgasm." She wore a mask she likened to Hannibal Lecter's to make sure she didn't make any movement that could sabotage the study.

August said she was given instructions on what to do down there during the entire experiment.

"I would be led through a series of text prompts, like, 'imagine stimulating your nipple,' then, 'stimulate your nipple,' using my fingers as Wise described. The last set would cue me to imagine self-stimulating then actually stimulating my clitoris to orgasm," reads her statement on Cosmopolitan.com.

The writer found out two things after the experiment. One: Mental orgasm is a real thing. This means it's possible to be sexually aroused and to experience an orgasm even without physical touch involved.

"When Komisaruk's team first began the MRI research, he was surprised to learn that 'thinking of stimulation of the clitoris, nipple, and [the] vagina activated the same classical sensory sites in the brain that were formerly thought to be activated only by physical stimulation,'" she shares. "After a few minutes in the machine, I could attest to this. Imagining my lover suckling my nipple felt even more erotic than touching it myself."

Her second realization: Women orgasm without realizing it. She explains: "While describing my experience later to the scientists, including the familiar post-orgasm swell of my labia and clitoris, it struck me: I'd come without even realizing it. Komisaruk wasn't surprised by my epiphany; numerous other female participants in the study reported having no orgasm, when the scan revealed otherwise."

Obviously, physical contact still matters, but it could be all in her head. So gents, be wary, and be good to her, if her imagination is rich enough, she may have no more use for your deadbeat ass.
