Denim Over Denim: Does This Style Work?

And more importantly, who should you give it a try?

Being stylish doesn't necessarily mean sticking to fashion rules. Rules are meant to be broken, and when it comes to your porma that includes wearing denim over denim.

This style is sort of a throwback to a '90s trend—albeit less overwhelming in execution. Although some folks may disagree, we think it actually looks amazing when it's done right.

Here are some basic rules you need to follow when going DonD:

1)   Make sure that the washes and colors are completely different from each other. That means pairing pieces with clashing denim tones. You can wear a dark denim jacket and washed dungaree bottom or the other way around.

2)   Pairing together a really baggy pair of jeans and an oversized denim jacket is a big no-no. Make sure that your pieces fit perfectly. As long as everything is fitted and structured, you can pretty much get away with anything.

3)   There's one major pitfall when doing this style: over-accessorizing. So if you're a fan of bling, this one isn't for you.

4)   And of course, experiment. Don't limit yourself. As long as they go together, flaunt it.

For those looking to elevate the double denim look, we've compiled some photos from SM Youth's recently launched collection called "Denim Citizens" for you to use as inspiration when creating your own looks.
