Every year, Uniqlo invites artists of all ages and nationalities to take part in their UT Grand Prix—a contest to come up with fresh designs for their graphic tee collection. This year’s theme was Marvel, which has “championed heroism for people around the world through epic storytelling and through such iconic characters as Iron Man and the Hulk.”
And to commemorate the studio’s much-awaited movie Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada and Uniqlo’s UT design team decided to give a special Avengers Prize. After sorting through 8,500 entries, they chose Filipina artist Avesyna’s design to receive this honor.

“The idea was to showcase our favorite group of heroes joining forces and diving into action to achieve one goal,” says Avesyna. “I am beyond honored and humbled to be chosen out of all the entries, thank you so much for the opportunity Uniqlo!”
It shouldn’t be that surprising that a Filipino won a special prize, considering the wealth of talented local artists and Marvel’s popularity among Pinoys. “The Philippines is the biggest market for Marvel, more than other countries,” says Masayoshi Nakamura, Chief Operating Officer of Uniqlo Philippines. “Marvel is doing well [here]. This season, we have new graphic T-shirts I expect customers will really enjoy.”
Taiwanese artist Zee won the grand prize.
Thai artist Viva won second prize.
Avesyna’s entry, along with the grand prize and second prize winners, will be sold all over the world. The UT Grand Prix 2018 collection will hit stores on April 20, 2018. There will be 13 designs for men, and six for kids. To see the rest of the collection, check out the UT Grand Prix website.
