We’re in an era of re-releases and remakes—film, shows, and, of course, shoes. The Stan Smith first came out in 1971. The Gazelle, even further back in 1966. But for their latest retro reissue, the Three Stripes has something a little more recent.
The Climacool 02/17 isn’t the exact same Climacool of the old days, but that perforated mesh upper really brings us back—that stuff looked space-age compared to the normal sneakers of the old days. And now—compared to all the knits and science-driven features—it doesn’t scream high-tech, instead its got that cool, dad sneaker vibe. But! This isn’t a dad’s sneaker, Climacool came out relatively recently, back in 2002. It’s got touches of modernity: side panels, crispy white tech sole, that slouchy heel shape. And the old-school bubble logo makes you stop and look more than anything else.
2002 is already a decade and a half away when you think about it, though! And it seems like that’s already enough time for us to get all reminiscent about something. So maybe, in 2030, we’d all be looking back fondly at jogger pants, man-buns, and boat shoes while watching the 6th reboot of Spider-Man.
