The Air Jordan 7 "Bordeaux" was one of the biggest sneaker drops of the year, released globally last July 18. The highly-anticipated third coming of the black-and-grey OG colorway is aesthetically sick.

But you knew that already, didn't you? So here are some facts you're probably clueless about...
1) THE WORD "BORDEAUX" IS A KIND OF WINE, NAMED AFTER A REGION IN FRANCE
First thing's first: It's pronounced "boar-doe," so don't be the fool who walks into the store asking if there are any Burdooks left in your size. Second, the shoes were named "Bordeaux" after a French wine, because of the shoe's wine purple accents on the Jumpman logo, tongue, and outsole.

2) THE AIR JORDAN 7 WAS ORIGINALLY RELEASED 23 YEARS AGO, IN 1992
This year marks "The Year of the Seven," since it's the Air Jordan 7's 23rd anniversary. This means that throughout the year, Jordan Brand will be releasing different colorways of Mike's seventh signature sneaker. Other colorways like the "French Blue" 7s and the "Hare" 7s have already been released last January and May. The Bordeaux 7s are set to join the roster of solid colorways to release this year.

3) MICHAEL JORDAN WORE THE BORDEAUX 7S IN THE 1992 ALL-STAR GAME
The 1992 NBA All-Star Game has a special place in the annals of basketball history. Many remember it as a game played by some of the NBA's greatest players, including members of the Dream Team. But it's best known as Magic Johnson's triumphant return (in a sick pair of Converse Cons, no less) after he had contracted HIV and retired before the 1991-92 season. With the deck stacked against him, Magic still managed to pull through with a winning performance that landed him the MVP title.

While the East did lose, 153-113, all four quarters saw exciting face-offs, including ones between Magic and Mike. Air Jordans are often prized for their appearances in legendary games, and the 1992 All-Star Game lend the Bordeaux 7s a lot of historical value.
4) THE BORDEAUX 7S ALSO STARRED IN A MICHAEL JACKSON MUSIC VIDEO

One of the greatest things about sneakers is that they can bridge the disparate worlds of fashion, sports, and music. Long before hip-hop artists started featuring basketball shoes in their music videos, MJ and MJ joined forces. Wearing the Bordeaux 7s, Jordan appeared in the music video for Jackson's "Jam," in which His Airness played some awkward one-on-one with the King of Pop.
5) THE BORDEAUX 7S ARE PART OF JORDAN BRAND'S 'REMASTERED' MODELS
Up until 2015, many sneakerheads had been unanimously disappointed in the declining quality of the Air Jordans that were being re-released. Different materials, shoddy stitching, and inaccurate coloration—they weren't making them like they used to.
But in late 2014, Jordan Brand finally addressed the outcry and announced the "remastered" models for 2015. Retro releases would once again be made with supple, premium leather and improved overall craftsmanship. The Bordeaux 7s are among that crop, so expect delicious, velvety suede and quality construction.
So while aesthetics alone is a perfectly understandable reason to cop these coveted kicks, there's definitely a lot more to them than looking pretty dope.
