One of the most popular items in global fashion and admittedly something that we've already seen rinsed and worn many, many times, Levi's 501 button fly jean is now 140 freakin' years old! Whoa, and cheers!
Yes, the iconic blue jean is almost a century-and-a-half-old—a testament to its appeal and place in popular culture. And, to celebrate this milestone, Levi's is outing something you may have not seen before: colored 501 jeans!
But before we get to covering your hairy legs in style, a little history lesson muna! After all, 140 years is a damn long time...
Older than your lolo, and even the Philippine revolution
On May 20, 1873—long before the Titanic decided to disastrously hook up with an iceberg or our Katipuneros decided enough is enough—the first blue jean was born, a product of the partnership of Levi Strauss and tailor Jacob Davis.
Since then, people belonging to all walks of life, from celebrities and even presidents to the hippies of the Flower Power days and our peers now, have donned a pair. This makes it a culturally significant piece of clothing, good enough to be named as Time Magazine's Fashion Item of the 20th Century.
