We are just days away from the Sole Academy Sneaker Carnival—an event that's poised to be one of the biggest celebrations of local sneaker culture this side of the world!

This coming Sunday, November 29, at the SM MOA Concert Grounds, Sole Academy (a popular multi-brand shoe boutique, in case you're wondering) will be opening the gates to the festivities.

Those who will troop to the venue will experience and see truly cool activities and spectacles both hardcore sneakerheads and casual enthusiasts (and even those who are just curious) will enjoy—from shoe exhibitions and talks to highly-anticipated sneaker releases and performances from top local bands. (We'll also be on the look out for them sneaker gals; events like this tend to attract loads of 'em!)

If you haven't marked your calendars yet, here's a list of reasons why you should revise your Sunday plans and make this sole-tastic happening a priority!

This one’s a no-brainer for sneakerheads. Sole Academy’s always pulled through for us by releasing low-key collabs that wouldn’t otherwise land on Philippine shores without huge reseller price tags. Also, it’s a good time to remember that these guys got their hands on the Yeezy Boost 350s, which we decidedly went nuts for.

Recently they’ve been holding off on a couple of their usual fire releases and saving them for one date: the 29th. Can you imagine the madness? If some of their previous Asics and Reebok drops managed to sell out in a matter of hours, a set of over 20 sneaker releases in a single day could very well herald a sneaker hype apocalypse.

Fresh kicks ain’t a thing without the right outfit and complementary gear. In the past, Sole Academy’s gifted us with Jansport collabs, all the latest threads from Nike Sportswear and SB, and perhaps most notably, Publish Brand’s ubiquitous sweatpants. For the Sneaker Carnival, Soul Academy won't be holding back. The fourth installment of their annual Jansport Right Pack collab is dropping. They’ve also got limited edition Publish joggers and WIP snapbacks, made especially for the event, launching on the same day.

They’re also bringing in a couple of offerings from German sneaker boutique, lifestyle brand, and ASICS collaborator AFEW (if, by any chance, you got in on the AFEW x Asics "Koi" Gel Lyte 3s, grab yourself the shirt to match at the Carnival). Plus, to boot, they’re releasing a Sole Academy x Clyde Premium Shoe Cleaning Kit for all of you who tend to get prissy with your all-whites.

We all know that being a sneakerhead is not just about buying sneakers, collecting them, and wearing them; there are entire bodies of knowledge associated with kicks. At the Sneaker Carnival, Sole Academy hopes to spread the word.

They’re hoisting up brand heritage booths and paying tribute to Puma, Reebok, and Asics, among others. To contextualize the culture, Martin David, better known as Sole Movement, is set to give a talk about the local sneaker scene. They’re also hosting a bunch of talks, forums, and tutorials for sneaker cleaning, sneaker customization, and sneaker maintenance and safekeeping. On top of that, our friends at will be holding a sneaker fashion show, so you can get a good idea of how to put an outfit together around your kicks.

4)   SNEAKERNEWS WILL BE THERE is a global institution in sneaker media—sneakerheads drop by the site on the regular for updates on what’s hot and what's new. They’ll be at the Sneaker Carnival to judge the ARTandSole mixed-media art contest, which pits some of Manila’s brightest creatives against each other with the challenge of creating sneaker-inspired art. It’s reasonable to expect that the latest issues of Sneakernews’ magazine will be up for grabs at the event as well.

Put everything sneaker-related aside and you’ve still got a pretty chill afternoon to look forward to. Over 20 musical performances are lined up for next Sunday, including Up Dharma Down, Mars Miranda, Motherbass, and Yolanda Moon. There won’t be any shortage of grub either, as food trucks like Chef Broosy and Shawarma Bros are going to be parked on the grounds. Sole Academy also managed to wrangle Todd English, Tim Ho Wan, Mesa, and Taters (among a LOT of other premium food joints) to help fill our tummies up.

And what’s an event without a conscientious cause? Sole Academy is also campaigning for a massive charity project: 10KDaSH (wherein DaSH means Donate a Shoe). They’re calling on everyone with an extra pair of beat-but-wearable shoes to donate pairs to needy schoolchildren and beneficiaries. So if you’re one of the Carnival’s many attendees with a few shoes too many, it’s your chance to help out some people who really need new soles!
