Anta must be giving itself a pat on the back after the brand signed NBA star Klay Thompson to a 10-year contract last year.
Despite his deadpan personality, the Golden State Warriors shooting guard has low-key been in the news recently, whether as Qatar Klay or being in the middle of Los Angeles Lakers rumors. Thus, the China-based sportswear company has rewarded Thompson with a solid signature basketball shoe line for increasing brand awareness.
Recently, designer Rob Fuller teased fans on Instagram with the three-time NBA champion's latest pair: the Anta KT4.
The model looks like a cross between the adidas Crazy Explosive 2017 and the Under Armour Curry 4, which isn't suprising because the man behind it was a former Three Stripes employee. The sock sneaker construction of its predecessor, the KT3, is continued, and enclosed by a glossy midsole, along with the FlashFoam cushioning.
The fact that Fuller got to preview the KT4 says a lot about his working relationship with Thompson. Last year, Fuller spoke to We Are Testers about collaborating with the player:
"Working with him, like working with any great athlete, raises expectations and it's exciting. For us, an emerging brand, I go back to China with his ideas and expectations and it makes everyone do better. He's got dual-personalities—we met China Klay this summer—but before that it was, 'He’s the silent one' or 'Quiet Klay.'"
Additional information about the Thompson's upcoming sig have yet to be revealed, including the release details. What we know so far is that it will come in black ("Sport Lux" suede) and white, according to the designer's post. Looking at it, though, Anta sure is making the most out of that $80 million.
