It has been a busy summer for LeBron James. After departing his hometown of Cleveland for the second time for the bright lights of Los Angeles, the King didn't waste time and immediately got to work, including the charitable kind.
More recently, LeBron has confirmed the official release date of his Nike collaborative effort with menswear designer John Elliott. And the crown jewel of the special pack is what the NBA superstar described as a "reimagining" of his earlier signature shoe and Elliott's personal favorite, the Nike LeBron 8, dubbed the John Elliott x Nike LeBron Icon QS.
In a Nike release, the designer revealed witnessing LeBron's greatness in the clutch. It wasn't during a basketball game, but rather the creative process: "The idea for the sock—that was LeBron's idea. It's a great story to tell because it really hammers home my whole ethos as a designer, which is all about creating a layered look."
The collection embodies the "need for versatility" of the three-time NBA champion. Elliott wrote on Instagram: "'Interesting people live outside their comfort zones.' LeBron James personifies this brand sentiment, and with that in mind, Nike allowed us to build a full modular footwear and apparel collection, harnessing their technologies and capabilities."
Aside from the low-top silhouette, the selection also includes a jacket, hoodie, long sleeve t-shirt and pants, which comes in black and white. The clean scheme says a lot about how LeBron and Elliott found common ground in conceptualizing pieces that "can move and are transitional."
Nike LeBron James x John Elliott Icon Collection will initially release August 4 in North America, Japan, Southeast Asia, Australia, and Brasil. Subsequent launches come August 25 in China and September 1 in Europe.
