This isn't the Skechers you grew up with. Far removed from being a shoe brand associated with Britney Spears in the early aughts, they have redefined themselves as a premier player in the arena of performance sneakers.
A number of accolades provide credence to the claim. In 2014, the brand was awarded the Footwear Brand of the Year trophy at the 2014 Footwear Industry Awards. From backing pop stars, the brand has also moved on to backing real athletes such as 2014 Boston Marathon champ, Meb Keflezighi, and U.S. Olympian and long-distance runner, Kara Goucher. These things attest to Skechers' renewed commitment to athletic excellence.
Of course, their shoes can also speak for themselves. Witness, their newest performance runner: the Skechers GOrun 4!
Lightweight, fast and snug-to-the-foot, the GOrun 4 is Skechers' latest opus. The pair was launched at an event at Fitness First in Trinoma Mall in Quezon City last March 26, where we got to try out the pair for ourselves. Here we have a rundown of our impressions of Skechers' snappy performance pair.
1) It's very light and flexible.
We don't like running shoes that restrict the natural movement of the foot. Thankfully, the GOrun 4's material is soft and light enough to bend with the foot while still keeping it tucked in nicely. It felt like you were wearing a glove for the foot. Credit goes to the upper's one-piece, form-fitting mesh construction.
2) We liked how breathable it was.
Not only was the shoe flexible, we liked how it was able to keep our feet cool even after going through several sweat-coercing drills. You'll be sweating buckets during a marathon, and it's important for a performance shoe like the GOrun 4 to be able to keep your feet comfortable while you keep your mind on the race.
3) Its M-Strike technology made it feel like we were running the correct way.
The GORun 4 is equipped with Skechers' signature M-Strike technology, which is said to promote a more efficient mid-foot strike, and thus, a faster and more efficient run. During the time that we got to run in the shoe, we felt that our feet were landing and pushing off in a very smooth manner. It had a very minimal feel but at the same time, you felt that it was working its magic.
4) The sole was bouncy and protected our foot from the impact.
The shoe makes use of Skechers' Resalyte midsole, which is the brand's proprietary technology that helps absorb impact. Not only did it made us feel like an efficient runner, it also effectively dissipated the impact as our feet hit the ground. Obviously, this is a very important factor when shopping for a shoe that has to keep your feet protected over a number of kilometers.
Thankfully, the GORun 4 is one such pair.
The Skechers GORun 4 is available now in Skechers stores nationwide for P4,795.
