Last December, we told you about how Nike flew FHM to Los Angeles California to meet Kobe Bryant and see the latest version of the Nike Air Zoom Kobe V. Well, gentleman, The Nike Kobe V has arrived on our shores.
Featuring a 10mm forefoot profile and weighing in at 10.6 ounces, the Nike Kobe V is Nike’s lowest-profile and lightest basketball shoe to date.
The low-top idea came from Kobe himself. A soccer fan, he noticed how footballers wear nothing but low-top shoes and yet they hardly get injured. The Black Mamba brought it up with researchers and designers at the Nike Sports Research Lab.
After countless tests, the team worked from the ground up. They modified the medial arch and sculpted the external heel counter, creating a shoe that moves with the foot and one that allows multi-directional cutting.
“We wanted this shoe to be a true reflection of his game and persona,” says Nike Performance Footwear Creative Director Eric Avar. “As Kobe continues to evolve as an athlete, so will the footwear we create for him.”
