Remember the days of writing on your shoes? Which were probably Vans because those white midsoles were perfect to scrawl on with a pentel pen. Well, it looks like the brand's designers want to bring that aesthetic back with the "Japanese Type" Sk8-Hi.
The Black/True White colorway combines the trademark checkerboard pattern with Japanese lettering on the collar, a white stripe, and the midsole detailing as mentioned earlier. It drops alongside a bred colorway that has some serious Akira or Slam Dunk vibes (depending on your anime of choice.)
It looks great on feet. But we may be a bit biased because we are weeaboos at heart over here. In general though, streetwear intersects with the anime aesthetic a lot–witness all the series collabs of adidas or Uniqlo's UT collections–but this Vans pair manages to do it subtly by not being associated with a specific show and just being an ode to Japan in general.
Unfortunately, there's no Lo model to go with it but the Sk8-Hi is already available from several retailers online, so look out for it to make its way here soon!
