In case you haven’t heard, slashing off the Filipino language as a mandatory subject in college and making the Korean language an elective in high school is apparently a thing now.
This after the Office of the Solicitor General asked the Supreme Court to remove the temporary restraining order that’s making these subjects stay.
Back in 2015, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) wanted to remove Filipino and Philippine Literature in the college curriculum. But the Supreme Court put out a TRO to retain the two along with other general subjects.
But according to Solicitor General Jose Calida, taking away Filipino and Philippine Literature as college subjects is a-okay since it’s being taught in the adapted K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.
Majority of Filipinos all over the country are furious about the idea. NGOs focused on fighting for the Filipino language and the Filipino identity are set to make an appeal regarding the decision. For those who can’t join the fight in person, memes have been all over social media to raise awareness and save the Filipino subjects and the Philippines itself.
