Were you able to drop by SM Megamall over the weekend for ToyCon PH 2015? Nope? Too bad; you missed a goddamn lot, bro!
This year's edition of the country's largest annual toy convention was heaven on earth for toy aficionados. Have you seen these awesome finds? Sure, you'd have to shell out serious dough to get some of the pieces on display, but the sights alone were worth the visit.
Speaking of sights, while the event was primarily focused on showcasing the best toys in town, it also gave a lion's share of the attention to cosplay. In fact, the number of visitors who came in dressed as their favorite anime/cartoon/video game/sci-fi character reached over 9,000 (Dragon Ball Z fans will get this).
As for us, we trooped to the event to get our toy-searching itch scratched. Did we also dress up? Nah, we left that to the experts. We're man enough to say we didn't have a snowball's chance in hell against these guys:
These Predators greeted us the moment we stepped into the venue, and we almost lost our shit for a moment, fearing their blades will decapitate us or their mandibles will crush our puny skulls. The attention to detail is strong with them!
We were casually hanging out at the toy stalls when we saw Kongou (of the game Kantai Collection), who looked rather displeased at our incessant asking if she can blow stuff up using her battleship powers.
Then, this monstrous dude approached us and asked us if we could "autograph" his notebook. Good thing we've watched enough Death Note to know what that will lead to. Ain't gonna happen, bro!
Here's a real-life version of Nico Robin (One Piece), who definitely looks as poised as her anime counterpart.
One of the biggest (fake) blades in the event belonged to this kid who went as Pit, the main (little) man of the game Kid Icarus.
Oh, look! It's Batman, looking as constipated serious as always.
The Star Wars look was a running theme throughout ToyCon PH 2015, so it's no surprise we saw more than a few Boba Fetts.
The event saw several staged anime battles, which made the participants sweaty and hungry. Just ask this masked samurai dude who didn't give an F and chomped down on a donut while the rest were busy touching swords.
Here's another Boba Fett, channeling his inner Russell "Are you not entertained?" Crowe.
What did we say about Star Wars being all over the event? Stormtrooper alert!
Let's take a brief break from the cosplay madness and look at the always pretty Ashley Gosiengfiao, who wore a cute Charizard cap during the event. And when she's around, her big sis isn't far behind...
The Philippines' cosplay queen and FHM cover girl Alodia Gosiengfiao gave ToyCon PH 2015 legit cosplay cred simply by showing up. Thumbs up for Pikachu!
Introducing Raket Rider Philippines, the grand winner of the group cosplay competition! They came dressed as various Kamen Riders, and went home with cash prizes, freebies, and goodie bags. Good job, boys!
A cosplay-heavy event won't be complete without a bunch of dancing school girls!
DoTA players, welcome your fiery queen, Lina Inverse (who looks like she's searching for someone to fry here).
Batgirl wasn't impressed by all the dad bods.
Captain America fanboys, spotted!
She may be cosplaying Power Girl but, based on her trim bod, we wouldn't be surprised if she can also serve a can of whoop-ass in real life.
Everybody's fave pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, was also part of the festivities. Arr!
See you at ToyCon PH 2016 in SMX next year, FHM Nation!
