Just a couple months ago, we went crazy (ok, maybe just elated) to hear that Emma Stone was going to play the role of Gwen Stacy in the upcoming gritty (yeesh) reboot of Spiderman.
Now comes another announcement that's sure to knock the socks off your feet.
The role: Catwoman in the next installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. The actress? Well, three and a half clues.
1. She has the aura of a bonafide 50s Hollywood star.
2. She shares her name with Shakespeare's wife (thanks, Wikipedia!).
3. And she once played a princess in a Disney movie, and also, the wife of a gay cowboy in an Oscar-nominated film.
Any ideas yet? It's none other than the inimitable Anne Hathaway! Warner Bros. Pictures announced today, 20 January 2011, that the 28-year old actress will officially be joining the cast of The Dark Knight Rises. She will be following in the footsteps of Michelle Pfeifer (Batman Returns, 1992) and Halle Berry (Catwoman, 2005).
Said Nolan: "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story." Christian Bale (Batman), Michael Caine (Alfred), and Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon) will be reprising their roles, while Tom Hardy (Inception, 2010) will be taking on the role of another villain, Bane.
And now we wait because the movie isn't set for release until 2012. In the meantime, let's play a game. Which Catwoman would you rather make whoopee with should you be so lucky? Michelle Pfeifer, Halle Berry, or Ms. Hathaway?
