The cause of death was suicide, as confirmed by CNN on Friday. Bourdain's close peer, Eric Ripert, found him "unresponsive" inside his hotel room in France. The Parts Unknown host and best-selling author was there to film an upcoming episode of his award-winning series.

In a statement, the network said, "It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain.
