The Department of Transportation (DOTr) officially relaunched the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (ADDA) with clearer guidelines after the agency had suspended its implementation last May due to public outcries over vague rules, particularly those that concerned a driver’s line of sight.

Under the new ADDA, holding your phone to text, receive calls or anything of that sort remains prohibited. However, authorities are now more lenient with where motorists could mount their devices.

That means you can use Waze as long as the device running the navigational app is mounted on the designated safe zone.

Also, the Inquirer reports that motorists can be slapped with at least a P5,000 fine for each offense. This amount can go up as high as P30,000 (if you’re driving a public utility vehicle, a school bus, a school service vehicle, a common carrier hauling volatile, flammable or toxic material), plus the possible suspension or even revocation of your license.
