During a senate hearing on Tuesday, August 23, PNP Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, who ordered the Special Action Forces (SAF) to man the NBP, said de Lima should’ve done the same.

Sana po, noong panahon mo pa dineploy ‘yung SAF noon I wish ‘yung SAF kinuha mo na noon pinaguwardiyahan ‘yung Bilibid,” he said.

De Lima, who led numerous raids at the national penitentiary during her time as Justice secretary, replied by saying that she had considered deploying the SAF but was prevented from doing so.

“So may I commend you na if you are telling us na totally free na of cellphones and other communication gadgets ngayon ang NBP wala na po tayong maririnig na mga ganyang transaction.”

De Lima and Dela Rosa were in the senate hearing to discuss the extrajudicial killings since the Duterte administration went full throttle on its war against drugs.

De Lima is also currently in hot water after President Rodrigo Duterte himself implicated her to having alleged ties to the illegal drug activities in the NBP. The senator has vehemently denied the allegations.
