When Jessy Mendiola topped the list of this year's Sexiest Women, the nation gave all sorts of reactions. People raised their brows, gave their praises, threw criticisms here and there, but ultimately, the ones who supported (and voted for) Jessy prevailed.
"It feels so unreal; it feels like it's still not happening," says the 23-year-old actress. "Kaya nagiging candid lang ako about it, because it's so overwhelming." And candid she was when we invited her to the old town of Binondo, Manila to do her celebratory cover outing.
What we aimed for? A graceful, timeless, and indomitable representation of today's Sexiest Woman in the Land.
Contrary to the vehement claims of her bashers online, Jessy was a picture of cool girl during the photo shoot. No air of arrogance was felt from her as she posed in the vacant space inside the Juan Luna Building—dust, humidity, and all.
At one point, we even had her come up a barge while it was drizzling to get a good shot of old Manila (grab a copy of the issue to see—stat!), acknowledging every "Hi, Jessy!" she got from passersby and porters. In all honesty, it is difficult to pinpoint where all the hate was coming from.
Is it in her "thunder thighs" (which happens to be the best heckle she gets online)? Is it in her straightforwardness when asked how she feels about the said heckling? We say those are good traits unnecessarily and unfairly taken against her.
"There are all types of confidence, all type of sexiness; we just have different ways of showing it," Jessy says in a firm tone.
So she won this year’s race to the Sexiest title, but we say we're the real winners here for crossing paths with a girl like Jessy Mendiola—unapologetic. Confident. Sexy.

We also have the long-awaited interview and photo shoot with social media darling Bea Benedicto.
But before you head out to get a copy, here's a sneak peek of what went down in Manila with Jessy:
