Binay’s communications director Joey Salgado said in a statement that the vice president has already called and congratulated Duterte for winning the presidential race, the Inquirer reported.
“We confirm that Vice President Binay has talked to President-elect Duterte. He extended his congratulations and wished the president-elect all the best,” Salgado said.
Binay initially said that he will wait it out until the official vote counting process is finished despite the insurmountable gap between him and Duterte.
“Ayaw kong gamitin ‘yung salitang concede. Hihintayin na lang hanggang matapos ‘yung electoral process,” he told GMA News.
With Binay conceding, only Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, who is currently in fifth place, remains in the presidential race with Duterte until all votes are tallied.
Binay was ranked fourth with 5,314,277 votes before he bowed out from the race.
