Heartbreaking news for the MMA community: BJ Penn has retired. The former UFC champion— and future Hall of Famer— has announced his retirement from the sport, following a unanimous decision loss to Nick Diaz at UFC 137 last Sunday. It was his third in five.

The good news is “The Prodigy” has always been known to be extra-emotional on post-fight interviews, which means Penn’s decision to leave could very well be a spur of the moment. After 10 years in the business, the 32-year old is still capable of performing at a high level, even though the guy himself doesn’t believe so anymore. Boo-hoo!

Should he choose to retire for good, at least BJ’s got a solid string of memorable fights that could cement his career as one of the best. BJ Penn’s five most significant fights, on the gallery below:
