"Thou shall finish reading this book laughing"
The collection, published by Summit Books, promises readers a good hearty laugh from the first page down to the last. It relives Bitoy's memorable creations, the hilarious gags that made them unforgettable, and spectacular illustrations straight from the comedian himself.
As a tribute to this awesomely hilarious piece of literature, we've ranked the top five funniest Bubble Gang characters Michael V. has ever played below.
Get ready for a healthy dose of nostalgia and laughs, folks!
5) THE BEST WORST REPORTER EVER: JUNIE LEE
We can't seem to duplicate the success of American late night talk shows. However, back in the '00s, we had a guy named Junie Lee who we think came close in terms of delivering side-splitting commentary. Every time he put his guests on the hot seat on his segment, Yours Truly, Junie Lee, they found themselves in a whirlwind of absurd questions and (accidentally) witty remarks from the awkward fictional host. The result: giggles from the audience and the guests themselves!
4) MR. STRAIGHTFORWARD: MR. ASSIMO
Mr. Aristotle Assimo is Bitoy's version of Captain Obvious. Don't you ever ask him something so, well, obvious or else you'll never hear the end of it.
3) ALL RAGS NO RICHES: DON MIGUEL DE AYALABANG
Another Bubble Gang classic every 30-something Pinoy knows, Muchas Grasas is a skit about vagrants who act like they're the kings and queens of the 'hood. Together with his buddy Ogie Alcasid and the rest of the gang, they live in a world where English-speaking taong grasas are considered the society's elites, and the rich are viewed as the unfortunate ones.
2) THE HUGOT HERMIT: TATA LINO
Tata Lino is one of Michael V.'s more recent characters, another proof of his uncanny ability to reinvent himself. Here he plays a white-haired hermit who gives free advice to people who seek his knowledge. The catch: He always delivers them in solid punchlines which often end up in Facebook-worthy #hugot lines
1) THE DECLAMATION WUNDERKID: CECILIO SASUMAN
The declamation champ of Grade 6-Molave, Cecilio delivers speeches that will have you gigglin' to no end. Bitoy's creative ability to tease our (green) minds by using an innocent speech quirk made Cecilio one of Michael V.'s most iconic, if not the most iconic, Bubble Gang characters ever.
We can still remember how Francine Prieto tried to hold back her laughter while exchanging lines with Cecilio. Bitoy was so funny, hindi mo talaga siya matiti, este, masisi.
The Bubble Bible by Bitoy is now available in bookstores and magazine stands nationwide for P250. For updates and more information about the book, like Summit Books on Facebook (www.facebook.com/SummitBooks) and follow them on Instagram (@summit.books)!
