Ever since the advent of social media, there have been an alarming string of twisted death hoaxes. News from blogs, trending stories, and even chain text messages have been spreading like wildfire, all claiming that a celebrity has suffered an untimely death, despite the celebrity in question making official announcements that they are still alive and well. Sadly, many people fall for this kind of thing. And the latest celebrity "death" that shocked the country? The "death" of Filipino rock legend Ely Buendia.
The fake demise of the 46-year old music icon became viral news on social media earlier today, around 12MN. Thousands of netizens were deceived by a link with the headline "BREAKING NEWS: Ely Buendia natagpuang patay sa loob ng kotse sa Tagaytay," which led to a fake ABS-CBN news blogspot page.
Buendia, together with his band, Apartel, just performed last Saturday night at Tagaytay Art Beat 2.
Buendia quickly dismissed the rumors by tweeting this message:
So for those who fell for the misleading news, cheer up, the legend is still alive, kicking, and making more music. And besides, we’re still waiting for Ely’s explanation regarding this:
