The Bureau of Customs (BoC) disposed of several luxury cars this week to send a message to smugglers and their erring employees that they won’t tolerate any form of under-the-table deals within their department.
During the BoC’s 116th founding anniversary, President Rodrigo Duterte himself led the bulldozing of 20 smuggled luxury cars at the port of Manila. These included brands like Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, and even a Corvette Stingray amounting to a total of P61.6 million.
The BoC usually auctions smuggled luxury cars, but Duterte explained that this would only give smugglers an opportunity to own the vehicles legally. “This kind of smuggling has been going on again, and again, and again over a period of centuries. Well, it has to stop,” he said.

Some threw other issues into the mix.
