Three iconic personalities from different disciplines who touched numerous lives have recently bid goodbye to their physical existence.

Dave Mirra

A BMX bike icon, Dave Mirra has been found dead of an apparent suicide. He was 41.

His body was found inside his truck earlier today in Greenville, North Carolina, according to reports. The Greenville Police Department, through a media release posted on their Facebook page, stated that his death is now being investigated as an apparent case of suicide. Local authorities noted a self-inflicted gunshot wound as the preliminary cause of death.

Mirra was recognized as one of the superstars of the pro BMX circuit. He was also an extremely accomplished X Games athlete, having amassed an amazing 24 X Games medals (14 gold, six silver, four bronze) throughout his career—a world record at one point.

His skills and popularity also helped him land a TV role, having hosted MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge for two seasons from 2004 to 2005. He also has a video game named after him, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX, which was released for different consoles in 2000.


Maurice White

Maurice White, who received accolades and drew praises as the co-founder and vocalist of the popular funk-soul group Earth, Wind & Fire, died in his sleep on Wednesday in his home in Los Angeles. He was 74.

The singer-songwriter was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1992, although it's been reported that his condition has really deteriorated in the past few months. Together with his bandmates, which included his brother, fellow co-founder and bassist Verdine White, Maurice released timeless classics such as "Boogie Wonderland" and "After the Love has Gone."

Earth, Wind & Fire was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2000. Maurice became part of the Songwriter Hall of Fame in 2010. His band has sold over 90 million albums worldwide since being formed 47 years ago.

Uro dela Cruz

Film and TV director Rosauro "Uro" dela Cruz passed away in his sleep early Thursday morning. He was 64.

Best known for being Bubble Gang's director since the gag show's birth in 1995, Dela Cruz was suffering from cirrhosis of the liver, although he kept his condition a secret to many, according to Aside from being a director, he was also an active screenwriter who has been associated with the likes of notable filmmakers Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes.

Dela Cruz wrote the screenplays for several '80s films including Scorpio Nights (1985), Virgin Forest (1985), and Unfaithful Wife (1986).

He also directed other local TV shows such as Celebrity Bluff and Show Me Da Manny and several movies including Bahay Ni Lola (2001) and Scaregivers (2008).
