After months of neither confirming nor denying it, Senator Leila de Lima has finally confirmed herself that she did have a relationship with her former driver-bodyguard Ronnie Dayan.
The embattled senator who has been at the receiving end of issue after controversial issue made the revelation in an exclusive interview with Winnie Monsod’s Bawal ang Pasaway show.
“Frailties of a woman... We became so close, that’s it because I trusted him. And siyempre na ano po ang loob ko,” De Lima told Monsod when asked how she fell for Dayan despite the huge gap between their social status.
De Lima also revealed their relationship lasted “a few years” up until the time they ended it when she decided to run for a seat in Senate during the May elections.
Aside from this, she admitted that she did hand out financial assistance to Dayan.
“Tumutulong tulong naman po ako sa kanya financially pero hindi naman yung papagawaan ko siya ng bahay,” she said, referring to a property in Pangasinan that is rumored to be her gift to Dayan.
But when it came to the accusation that Dayan was her bagman, De Lima denied it and reiterated that she had nothing to do with the illegal drug trade at the national penitentiary which her detractors are accusing her of.
Still, she said she could only speak for herself and that Dayan’s possible involvement in the drug trade was “in the realm of possibility.”
Dayan was summoned to the House hearing discussing the alleged proliferation of drugs inside the national penitentiary in October but was a no-show and is now believed to be in hiding.
