The Department of Health (DOH) will finally be providing free hospitalization for poor Filipinos through a government program next year.
During a speaking engagement over the weekend, DOH Secretary Paulyn Ubial shared some details of the new health program intended for the marginalized sector, GMA News reports.
“There’s no need to hold any card of PhilHealth, just prove to us you are a Filipino, you are entitled to be covered by health benefits, the PhilHealth will take care of the hospital billings and other concerns,” she said.
Ubial also said selected medicines are covered in the health program so those who will avail of it will leave the hospital without spending anything on both the medical service and supplies.
The Health Secretary’s statement comes after added funding was provided to the DOH by Congress and the Budget Department.
Aside from this, the government has greatly reduced PhilHealth’s P42 billion debt, which leaves the DOH in good financial standing to conduct its new health programs.
“This is first time in history... President Rodrigo Duterte has exerted all efforts and expect changes in the next days...poor patients will leave hospitals with no billings balance,” Ubial said.
