President Rodrigo Duterte didn't mince words when talking about Chinese President Xi Jinping and how important this particular leader is to him. (Wait, what?)
Duterte was quoted during a recent press conference in Davao before departing for the Boao Forum for Asia in China: "I just simply love Xi Jinping. He understood, he understands my problem and he is willing to help."
The President, who once promised to ride a jetski and plant the Philippine flag on the disputed Scarborough Shoal, underscored his fellow world leader's value to the country's "Build, Build, Build" approach.
"Of course, China is a very important ingredient there. You factor almost everything from a hard start. But... money, but of course it would not really be enough. Every day the cost of money goes up, that’s the problem. So, you may have a pricing today far different from last week," Duterte said. "So, I would say, I need China. More than anybody else at this time of our national life, I need China. I will not say something which is not true."
According to a GMA News report, he even told a Chinese reporter that the relationship between China and the Philippines will "bloom into something big and beautiful like a flower."
This is the latest episode of the brewing bromance between Duterte and the Chinese president, who greeted the former on his birthday. Although it looks like the two chiefs of state are the only ones that are amused by the stronger ties.
