When presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte promised he would eradicate crime in three to six months, he drew the adulation of the crowd. Many visualized a tiger-like Digong mowing down throngs of baddies with bullets and bombs—ethical and moral lines be damned.
Now, we no longer have to imagine with the release of smartphone game Fighting Crime - Duterte Edition on the Apple Store (it's known as Duterte Fighting Crime on Google Play). In the game, the mayor virtually shoots down all sorts of lawless elements (mostly stereotypical portrayals of masked bandits) with an automatic rifle. The game has been a hit.
Developed by Anjo Pascual, drawn and animated by Donat Pascual, and tested by Gab-gab Aguilar of local game development team Tatay Games, the app peaked at No. 14 in the "Top Free in Android Apps" chart of the Google Play Store and App Store recently. It has been installed by some 100,000 to 500,000 users and has received mostly positive ratings and hilarious suggestions.
"I admire the developer for his efforts and love for the country. Another hero in his own ways. The change is coming," one said.
Another proposed, "Paki update po ito pkilagyan po ng boss.. like binay, poe and roxas po.. and pki upgrade nman po ung life ni duterte and mas masaya pag ratratan."
