President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday has ordered the closure of all online gaming.

In a speech at the Malacanang Palace, the president ordered the ban due to a lack of government measures to contain the growing industry, GMA News Online reports.

“I am ordering the closure of all online gaming. Lahat. Walang silbi ito,” he said.

If you were wondering, what Duterte actually meant by “online gaming” is gambling and other betting activities done via the internet.

So rest assured, your favorite online games like Defense of the Ancients (DOTA), League of Legends (LOL) and Overwatch are definitely safe unless he suddenly decides to ban these too.

Back in June, Duterte initially stated that he wanted to put a halt to online gaming in the country.

But he backtracked in August saying that he would allow these if things can be done to properly regulate and tax the industry.

Other major measures that are pending on Duterte’s plate include a nationwide smoking ban, the firecracker ban and late-night karaoke ban.
