The Duterte administration is planning on pushing through with a nationwide infrastructure plan by creating more bridges in the future with the aim of developing the country into an interconnected archipelago to boost business and economy.
“Maybe in the years to come, we will see a nation with bridges, connect-connect na lang for short distances. But the far and between the wide expanse of the sea, it will take generation,” he said.
The 8-kilometer CCLEX is the third bridge that will connect Cebu to Mactan Island. It will be built by the Metro Pacific Tollways Development Corporation, which will also operate it for 35 years before turning it over to the people of Cebu.
For his part, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said the P27.9 billion toll bridge project will provide a big boost to their tourism, employment and other developments in the province.
“There is room with the construction of the bridge, it is possible to put up a major power plant away from the city. It is possible to put an international port, this is the kind of opportunity that we should work on,” he said.
The CCLEX is expected to be completed in 2020, while its toll fee is estimated to be priced around the P82 to P89 range.
