“We absolutely expect that the president will raise concerns about some of the recent statements from the president of the Philippines,” Rhodes said.

Among the issues Obama will raise are regarding human rights and Duterte’s offensive remarks against women and other sectors.

They will also be discussing the ongoing maritime dispute in the South China Sea.

Duterte has earlier referred to US ambassador Philip Goldberg as “gay” when US Secretary of State John Kerry’s visited the country in July.

Meanwhile, alleged human rights violations have been rife under the Duterte administration that has recorded at least 1,900 incidents of extrajudicial killings since June.
