If you’ve seen the sexy ads of animal welfare group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), there’s one thing you can be sure of: these guys know how to get your attention. [firstpara]But here’s another that’s sure to pique your interest: Isabel Roces, supermodel, FHM babe, and animal lover, has just been named PETA’s Person of the Year. Given her beauty, this stunning Filipina has been a fixture in many fashion magazines, not the least of which are Women’s Health, Preview, and Cosmopolitan.
But her beauty really is more than skin-deep, which you’ll realize after you see just how dedicated she is in her cause of promoting animal welfare.
Let’s do a quick rundown. In the aftermath of Ondoy, many a Filipino went out of their way to provide help for the victims. Ms. Roces was one of those, as she volunteered volunteer in The Philippine Animal Welfare Society’s (PAWS) rescue operations. She also solicited donations for the Palawan Animal Welfare Association (PAWA) to help in their operations.
When not taking part in animal-oriented organizations, Isabel is quite proactive on her own. She advocates a vegetarian diet, speaks publicly about the violence and pain involved in the procurement of animal fur, and promotes the use of make-up and other implements that do not undergo animal testing. She also vehemently refuses to take part in any commercial or event that promotes meat and dairy products.
So to Ms. Roces, we salute you. Though we might not yet be ready to give up our barbaric meat-eating ways, we’ll gladly succumb to your other wishes, and we’ll always treat good ol’ bantay and tagpi, the way you want us to.
