After he confirmed to the press that he had been asked to head the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), musician Freddie Aguilar suggested a simple solution to the controversial Torre de Manila case.
As an InterAksyon.com report recalled, "The NCCA had issued an order calling on DM Consunji Inc. (DMCI) to stop the construction of Torre de Manila, which critics derisively called the 'National Photobomber' of the Rizal Monument at Luneta Park, Manila because it ruined the view of the monument of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal."
Aguilar was asked to weigh in on the festering controversy.
By "kalabaw," Aguilar is referring to the life-size statue of the animal located in the western section of the Luneta. It's near the Quirino Grandstand.
Aguilar thinks that switching the two structures would be beneficial.
Aguilar's suggestion got mixed reactions. There were those who thought it was a ridiculous idea to destroy the Luneta's layout in order to "adjust" to the Torre de Manila.
Writer Lourd de Veyra weighed in on Aguilar's suggested switch in a Facebook post.
Other people also offered their advice and insights.
Only time will tell if Aguilar's suggestion will be implemented. Perhaps, we can only hope that the Rizal Monument is left in peace.
