The heads of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will get to keep their jobs even after the president’s recent order for a massive purge affecting all presidential appointees.

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar said Memorandum Circular No. 41 which was released on Monday night instructed appointees from the past administration to submit their courtesy resignations.

But the same memorandum exempts those with the rank of Assistant Secretary which is shared by both the LTO and LTFRB chiefs, GMA News reported.

The memorandum also exempts newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries and Undersecretaries.

During an early morning press conference on Sunday, President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his frustration over ongoing corruption in various government agencies all over the country. He then declared all positions occupied by previous appointees vacant.

Duterte even called out the LTO and LTFRB as two of the government agencies with the most corruption still going on despite his stern warnings against it.

He also instructed the LTFRB officials to meet him in Malacañang this week.

During the campaign period, Duterte vowed a clean government apart from promising a war against drugs if he gets elected into office.
