Despite ongoing preparations for former president Ferdinand Marcos' burial this month, his family and supporters have to wait a bit more after another judicial order was handed down.

The order issued by the Supreme Court (SC) extends its earlier status quo ante, and now prevents the burial of Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) until October 18.

The SC issued the order following the second round of oral arguments on the hotly contested issue, Philstar reported.

Petitioners who are mostly human rights victims during Marcos' martial law reign said he was not worthy of being buried at the LNMB due to the countless abuses during his time as president.

Meanwhile, the Inquirer noted Solicitor General Jose Calida as saying that Marcos was never dishonorably charged from service and meets all requirements to be buried at the LNMB.

The SC initially ordered a 20-day status quo ante order last month in response to various petitions asking President Rodrigo Duterte to reconsider his decision to allow the burial.
