Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) season is not only a time for local mainstream movies to take center stage but is also a field day for wannabe "film buffs."
And even with a highly volatile conduit called social media, these "analysts" continue to dish out their mindless sentiments, which they consider valid arguments. Instead of elevating the discourse about an industry they deem is on a downward spiral, these diehard fans/self-righteous members of the society are actually only making matters worse.
Below are the usual brash comments made by keyboard warriors, who, in actuality, haven't seen any of the films.
My Bebe Love
Generic keyboard warrior comment: "According to my *insert close acquaintance here*, boring/sayang pera daw 'yung My Bebe Love. #RivalMovie"
It's good to know that one of its stars knows how to brush off all the negativity, especially after her much-talked about Best Supporting Actress win:
Beauty and the Bestie
Generic keyboard warrior comment: "Kung trailer ang pagbabasehan, you can tell which between Beauty and the Bestie and *insert rival box-office movie here* is worth watching. #RivalMovie"
This had us thinking: "Why not just watch both films?"
All You Need Is Pag-ibig
Generic keyboard warrior comment: "Kris Aquino and her über-annoying son Bimby are the last persons I want to see this Christmas."
Other cast members: Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, Jodi Sta. Maria, Ian Veneracion, Derek Ramsay and Pokwang
Generic keyboard warrior comment: "SINGLE NA DAW SI MARIA OZAWA?!"
Honor Thy Father
Generic keyboard warrior comment: "*insert insult directed at rival movie here* Justice for Honor Thy Father #RIPMMFF2015 #DemandForHonorThyFather" — posted by a fan-made Twitter account or a netizen who has their idols as his/her profile photo
At least the director knows better:
Generic keyboard warrior comment: "You mean walang Shake, Rattle & Roll this year?!"
We say, be thankful of this chance to witness Janella Salvador's (sort of) coming-of-age...
Generic keyboard warrior comment: "*insert hugot line here* #WalangForever," or "Congrats, @MercadoJen! #EnglishOnlyPlease"
Look on the bright side; Jen and Co. are slowly but surely redefining the quality of Filipino rom-coms.
Buy Now Die Later
Generic keyboard warrior comment: "Gusto kong manood ng Buy Now Die Later ba 'yun?"
Just remember that Vhong Navarro and John "Sweet" Lapus are enough reasons to watch this horror-comedy.
