Michael Jackson is dead. The King of Pop collapsed at his home in Los Angeles, California, suffering from cardiac arrest, Thursday afternoon (Friday, Manila time), was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center, and was proclaimed dead about an hour later. He was 50 years old. [firstpara]

His death comes as huge shock all across the world. According to Rolling Stone magazine, he was set to go on a 50-show series in London. Instead, the fans will have to celebrate without him. In Los Angeles, thousands of fans have flocked to the UCLA Medical Center to pay tribute to a cultural icon. In New York, fans have gathered in front of the Apollo center, to celebrate Michael Jackson.

From the charming little boy of the Jackson 5, Michael Jackson rose to unprecedented fame in the 70s and 80s with catchy songs like “Ben,” “Off the Wall,” and “Rock with You,” and his electrifying performances. He released Thriller in 1982, which, with seven hit singles, would go on to become the best selling pop record of all time (until recently, when an Eagles greatest hit took on the top spot).

But just as his music propelled him to the top, his eccentricities befuddled most everyone. From clumsily showing off his child off a balcony of his hotel, to his odd Peter Pan-esque ways; wearing gas masks and pajamas in public, to the Child Molestation trial, Michael Jackson has proven to be worth anybody's wonder.

His star had been lackluster for quite some time now, and the world was just waiting for when The Jacko will strike once again. Nobody ever thought he'd make it back to the limelight this way. For making this world feel more like a home, sweet music and all, Michael Jackson will never be out of our lives.
