The Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC) might just get the chance to raise its toll fees on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).
In a petition sent to the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) this month, the MNTC requested a 16 to 21 percent toll fee hike, GMA News reported.
According to the MNTC, they have already incurred over P5 billion in losses due to the fact that they have not been allowed to raise their toll rates since 2013.
If their request gets approved, the MNTC will be able to increase the minimum toll pass for Class 1 vehicles from the current P45 to up to P54.45.
Meanwhile, traveling from Balintawak to the Tipo exit in SCTEX will cost up to P493.68 from the current P408 fee for Class 1 vehicles.
TRB Exec Director Abraham Sales said they have yet to hand down a decision on the petition as it will take time to study the toll fee request.
“[We will audit] all considerations to establish yung reasonableness ng rate,” he said.
The MNTC began operations for the NLEX and the SCTEX in 2005 and 2008, respectively. Both expressways are traversed by a combined 235,000 motorists each day.
