Over the weekend, a post from a Facebook page went viral due to its compelling story about President Rodrigo Duterte riding it out on the road as a man of action.
According to the post, Duterte—with his identity concealed—rode his motorcycle to Muntinlupa City to personally check the situation there.
He then found out that street vendors were causing a congestion on the streets of the market area, so he went to the mayor's office and instructed him to have them cleared out.
The move supposedly decongested the area, resulting in two days of no traffic and a generally peaceful atmosphere.
However, the story, which could have most likely happened based on Duterte's previous practices while he was Davao City mayor, turned out to be fake.
According to Muntinlupa City Public Information Officer Tez Navarro, the story was too good to be true.
"It is not true. How we wish," he told GMA News. "We will be honored to have the President in Muntinlupa."
Even Mocha Uson, a staunch Duterte supporter, clarified on her page that the story was indeed a hoax and called on her fellow supporters to spread the right information to avoid misleading others.
The faux anecdote has 50,000 likes and over 22,000 shares as of this posting.
