Five of our country's finest fighters are set to compete at ONE FC: Warrior's Way this Friday, December 5, at the Mall of Asia Arena, and they need our unwavering support more than ever.
Say, former UFC heavyweight contender Brandon "The Truth" Vera, why should we put our money on Pinoys this time? "Kakaiba ang dugo ng Pinoy. The best boxers in the world are Filipinos and Mexicans, right?" Brandon tells us. "I've been to Mexico. They live exactly like it is right here in the Philippines. We are born and bred the same way. We understand the struggle. Instead of whining and complaining, we do something about it. That's how MMA is. This is why we do so much better."
Before they head into the biggest fight of their respective careers, below are some of the things our hometown MMA heroes told us about Friday's event!
“I’m doing it for my family. For the first time, my family in the Philippines will be able to witness me live in action! This is a huge fight for me and I want to win for them.” - Vera on having homecourt advantage over Igor Subora
“This is an exciting time to be a fan of mixed martial arts in the Philippines. ONE FC has brought the best international stars to Manila to test the top Filipino stars. Friday will be a hallmark day for the country as we prove we have some of the best mixed martial artists in the world.” - Eduard "The Landslide" Folayang on making history against Timofey Nastyukhin
“I have grown significantly as a mixed martial artist. I have dedicated myself in the past three months to improve my grappling, working with Ricky Lundell. Fans can prepare to see a new version of me when I step into the cage this Friday.” - Ana "The Hurricane" Julaton on standing toe-to-toe with Walaa Abas Mohamed Kamaly
“I want to get back on track towards the title, and it begins with a victory this Friday. I will knock him out and make a statement!” - Kevin "The Silencer" Belingon on how he intends to finish Koetsu Okazaki
“I have no pressure heading into this fight. I can fight with the support of the hometown fans behind me and I’m confident whether it's standing or on the ground.” - Honorio "The Rock" Banario on what makes him better than Herbert Burns
We wish you the best of luck, idols! Do our country proud!
