If it were up to Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo, Senator Leila de Lima should step down from her post following her admission that she indeed had a relationship with her former driver-bodyguard Ronnie Dayan.
Panelo said the neophyte senator should take it upon herself to resign unless she wants to be removed due to “immorality and grave misconduct,” Manila Bulletin reports.
During her revelation on Monday, De Lima, who is annulled, claimed that Dayan was separated from his wife when they were together for “a few years.”
It was Duterte himself who released a drug matrix in August where he tagged Dayan as De Lima’s bagman in the alleged drug ring operation in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
De Lima who was previously mum regarding her past relationship with Dayan despite rumors, has repeatedly denied the illegal drug accusations hurled at her.
Still, Duterte believes that Dayan is the missing link to finally pin down De Lima.
“He cannot answer for himself, he's not around. Bakit nawala siya? I hope he'll still be alive. He's still a vital witness.”
A P1 million bounty is currently offered to any individual who could provide information leading to the arrest of Dayan who was a no-show at a Congress hearing tackling alleged illegal drug activities in the NBP.
