Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III has unveiled the shortlist of individuals being eyed as senatorial candidates who will run under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
Five prospects (Sonny Angara, Nancy Binay, JV Ejercito, Grace Poe, and Cynthia Villar) weren't part of the ruling party during the 2013 polls, while some curious choices—both expected and unexpected—include Sec. Bong Go, Asec. Mocha Uson, reporter Jiggy Manicad, and singer Freddie Aguilar.
The PDP-Laban will finalize its Senate slate for next year's elections by September, not without the approval of President Rodrigo Duterte, according to Pimentel. It's safe to say that some netizens weren't amused with the preliminary lineup, judging by the side-splitting memes that spawned on the heels of the announcement.

Of course, social media argued that a few personalities were missing from the star-studded lineup, and had more hilarious nominees in mind.
As if Mocha came as a surprise, especially with House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez spoiling her and Sec. Harry Roque's candidacy in November 2017.
When asked about Ka Freddie's qualifications, Pimentel was quoted by Philstar.com, "He has all of them. And for sure, he has ideas on how legislation can solve some of our problems." Aguilar, for his part, said in a radio interview (non-verbatim), "Alam niyo na naman ang adbokasiya ko. Pakinggan niyo na lang ang mga kanta ko."
If those two actually get elected, at least no one will ever complain about the lack of entertainment in the legislature. We will surely miss sir Lito Lapid.
Manicad's name definitely caught everyone off guard, but it only gave the internet a reason to resurrect his iconic news scoops.
