The Philippines is slaying it in the international beauty pageant scene after Kylie Verzosa’s fresh victory as Miss International 2016.

Verzosa, 24, was crowned in the prestigious pageant’s 56th edition and is the sixth Filipina to receive the title.

In her acceptance speech, she thanked everyone who supported her in her journey to success.

“I cannot believe this moment right now and I am estatic ang happy. Thank you so much to my family, to the Philippines, and to everyone who supported me. I did not go through this journey alone but I had a lot of help from the people who love me.”

“I deeply appreciate this. This moment has only happened in my dreams. Thank you so much Japan, thank you Miss International.”

What she said during the speech portion was also nothing short of perfect.

With Verzosa’s win, the Philippines has poised itself as an international beauty queen powerhouse after producing six titlists in the span of just three years.

Here are the five other Pinay beauties that definitely prove that Filipinas are world-class:

Miss World 2013 Megan Young

From local teen actress to international beauty queen, Megan’s coronation as Miss World 2013 started the rise of the Philippines as a beauty pageant powerhouse in this decade.

The 26-year-old Filipina is the first ever Miss World titlist from the Philippines since it was founded in 1951.

Among the highlights during her reign were her efforts in supporting the victims of super typhoon Yolanda when it devastated the Philippines a month after her coronation.

Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago

Bea Rose Santiago ended 2013 with a bang, bagging the Miss International 2013 title barely two months after Megan’s win.

During her reign, Bea, together with the International Cultural Association, did charity work in countries like Japan and Myanmar.

Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herell

Jamie Herell kept the Philippines in the beauty pageant scene in 2014 by winning the Miss Earth title. She is only the second Filipina to ever win the title, following Karla Henry’s win in 2008.

Jamie answered the Q&A quite well, wowing the judges with her answer to a question about the growing problem of global warming.

“Global warming has been known for being a very long overdue issue. That is why if I am crowned tonight, I will use my title to inspire others to help our environment, and we start with the kids. Because the kids are the people of tomorrow, and if we teach them, they will also help the community. And that’s what I will do if I’m crowned Miss Earth tonight.”

Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Ong

Angelia Ong set a record by winning the first ever consecutive title for a country in the Miss Earth pageant history in 2015.

In December of the same year, Angelia campaigned with the Ecowaste Coalition to urge the public to veer away from the traditional use of toxic and dangerous firecrackers during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

She also visited various countries all over the world like China, Colombia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the United States, and Vietnam to promote the protection of our environment.

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach

Last, but definitely not the least, is Pia Wurtzbach who ended the country’s 42-year Miss Universe drought after finally winning the coveted title two weeks after Angelia’s Miss Earth victory in December 2015.

Pia displayed her wits along with her kindness with her winning reply during the Q&A portion.

“To be a Miss Universe is both an honor and responsibility. If I were to be Miss Universe, I will use my voice to influence the youth, and I would raise awareness to certain causes like HIV awareness that is timely and relevant to my country which is the Philippines. I want to show the world, the universe rather, that I am confidently beautiful with a heart.”

Since her coronation, she has enjoyed a massive local and international following for indeed being true to her word and showing her ‘confidently beautiful with a heart’ attitude which highlights her simplicity.

And of course, who could forget Miss Universe host Steve Harvey’s infamous gaffe where he initially announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez instead of Pia as the winner?
