We go waaaaaay back with Phoemela Baranda. So much so that she's gone through the three stages of a showbiz career—from next big thing to household name to industry veteran—right under our wing. She's an FHM four-timer (three-time if you're only counting covers), for crying out loud.
Things inevitably change over time, but the one thing that didn't is Phoem's super hotness. In this week's edition of History of Sexy, we look back at Phoem's 15-year showbiz journey from promising upstart to yummy mommy, and the many awesome FHM photoshoots that took place in between!
Phoemela, who was 18 when this photo was taken, was acknowledged as the first Filipina model to have enjoyed major success in the local modeling industry even before turning 20.
By age 20, Phoem has already graced the cover of Cosmo Philippines (whoa!). She made her much-awaited FHM debut in 2001, which also happens to be the year she first cracked our 100 Sexiest Women in the World list.
Already a household name because of her stint in the afternoon game show Extra-Extra, Phoem finally landed her own FHM cover on November '04. "If you compare my photos then and my photos now—they're different," she tells us almost a decade later. "You have to transform and improve and grow up."
Phoem switch networks, but not without controversy. Word has it that she was dismissed from her GMA 7 show because of a little incident involving, uhm, weed. It turns out, however, that she would end up becoming even more successful as The Buzz's and TV Patrol's resident showbiz anchor, a post she held for many, many years.
