The Ombudsman is not letting Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa off the hook after it found out that the top cop’s recent trip to Las Vegas was sponsored in full by Senator Manny Pacquiao.
According to Ombudsman’s Office, they have launched an investigation to determine if the PNP chief violated Republic Act (RA) 6713, GMA News reports.
Under the said law, public officials are held to a high standard of ethics and should abide by a code of conduct.
Dela Rosa, for his part, shrugged off the investigation and highlighted his good intentions to support his fellow countryman.
“Makulong ako dahil sa imbitasyon? Well... Conspiracy to go to Las Vegas to watch the boxing? Tignan na lang natin. Basta ang importante hindi ako nangungurakot ng kwarta [ng gobyerno].”
Both dela Rosa and Pacquiao have admitted that the latter shelled out for the trip and accommodation of the former’s family to Las Vegas so they could watch his boxing match.
It has been a longstanding tradition for Pacquiao to invite his close friends into his entourage and pay for all their expenses including tickets, flight and accommodation whenever he has a boxing match.
