You might not be familiar with his face or name, but we're pretty sure you've already seen some of fashion photographer BJ Pascual's works. Remember that controversial Bench billboard along EDSA that featured a gay couple? How about Solenn Heussaff's nude Esquire cover back in 2013? He shot those.
Indeed, the 27-year-old lensman, who has been in the industry for about seven years now, has made a name for himself. It's safe to say that he has the right to brag.
But instead of doing so, BJ remains down to earth with his words in his recently launched photobook Push: Muses, Mischief & How To Make It In Manila. Aside from having tips for aspiring photographers, this piece of photo-heavy art has something that deserves the FHM Stamp of Approval: A collection of snaps of some of the most stunning Pinay celebrities!
Check out its artsy cover below:
In the photobook, BJ revealed his secrets for being a successful photographer at such a young age. Here are three of his many pieces of advice for those who'd like to follow his footsteps:
A) BE PREPARED ALL THE TIME
"When you go to a shoot, you have to expect that a million different things can go wrong. And you know what? You can anticipate those problems by being prepared. When I say preparation, I don’t just mean bringing all your equipment. Having baon with you means having ideas, in case your initial concept doesn't work. Talent is just half the game."
B) BE UNIQUE
"When you're developing your photography skills, it's important to maintain your signature style. Keep that, whatever makes your work special or different. It's not always the wisest move business-wise, but as photographer, you have to have a look."
C) MAKE CONNECTIONS
"Through my experiences, I've learned that you can't go through this alone. At the start, I didn't really know anyone at all. But it;s about how you build relationships with the people you meet, and the work ethic as well."
For us not looking to hold a camera as a profession or hobby, the snaps below should convince you to still grab a copy:
