In order to give arriving passengers better travel options, regular taxis are now allowed to pick them up at the arrival area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

On Monday, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Eddie Villanueva Monreal announced this development to the country's primary airport, GMA News reported.

"The NAIA does not have enough accredited taxis and vehicles-for-hire to take thousands of domestic and international passengers arriving daily," he said.

Monreal told CNN Philippines that the new policy would reduce the waiting time of passengers from at least an hour to just over 30 minutes. He also said regular taxis are generally cheaper to hire compared to airport taxis.

Yellow taxis, which used to be the only airport accredited cabs, charge P70 as a flagdown rate—P40 more than that of regular metered taxis.

Aside from regular taxis, passengers can also choose to hire app-based GrabCar vehicles if they prefer. There is also now a premium airport bus service at all terminals that can bring passengers to specific areas in Roxas Boulevard and the Makati Central Business District.
